Area of Operation Expands into Devon
We are pleased to announce that as part or our continued partnership with Morrison Utilities, we have now expanded into the Devon area. We are currently operating out of a satellite depot in Exeter although full control is held at our head office in Shepton Mallet. We are covering the area using 6 teams, 2 supervisors and 1 assistant to the supervisors. The contract is managed by Matthew Payne who previously controlled the Wiltshire area and who has welcomed the new challenge.
Paul Hutton - Contracts Team Manager
Paul joined the Company in October 2001 as a grab driver. He stayed with WCE until November 2005 in which time he was promoted to Assistant Supervisor covering the Wiltshire area. After a short period of time Paul returned to the Company in July 2006 in the post of Supervisor, again in the Wiltshire area. In April 2007 Paul was further promoted to Contracts Team Manager. Paul has become a valuable member of the Management team and we wish him well in his new role.
Dave Bows - Health, Safety & Human Resources Manager
To demonstrate a continuing commitment by the company to two vital areas of the business a new management post of Health, Safety & Human Resources Manager was established earlier this year and Dave was appointed into this position in late May.
He has assumed some of the responsibilities previously held by both the Logistics & Development Manager and the Operations Director thus allowing them to fully concentrate on their own core activities. In addition to his two central areas of responsibility Dave will also be looking at existing processes and procedures with a view to implementing revised or new methods of training where appropriate. This will apply equally to Staff and Operatives alike and will, in time, develop into a company wide continuous personal development programme.
This new post can only enhance our effectiveness and operational output thereby delivering up to and beyond our client’s expectations. We welcome Dave and hope he settles quickly into his new position.
WEVMS - Goes Live!
The 'Walton Electronic Vehicle Management System' (WEVMS) went live on the 9th June 2008. This is a further enhancement to not only the management of the fleet, but by having live information about the current whereabouts of our teams, we could advise our clients of realistic ETA's to either a planned or emergency job. This system has proven extremely popular with the teams and staff alike.
Vehicle Fleet Expands
Over the last 12 months there has been considerable investment in updating the operational vehicle fleet. A great deal of time and effort has gone in to producing the best vehicle for the job in hand. With valuable input from our drivers, we have had many of the vehicles custom built to our specification, which has provided many challenges for the body builders. With deliveries of the vehicles now complete, we are extremely proud of our extensive vehicle fleet which reflects our Company image
John Binding - Logistics and Development Manager
As the Plant & Transport Manager, John gained seniority within the Management Team in December 2006. To reflect his continued commitment to the future of the company his job title has now changed to reflect the direction in which his career is moving. Now as the Logistics and Development Manager, John not only has the Plant and Transport side of the business to run but he is now also heavily involved in the Corporate Development of Walton Civil Engineering Ltd.
John will be developing and implementing new systems and procedures which will ensure that the company is marketed in a way that befits a respected medium size company within the utility Sector. He will also be looking at new methods for internal training for both Staff and Operative’s as well as career development.
CPD - Operations Director
Chris Douglas has been appointed as Operations Director from 1st April 2006. Chris has been with the company 3 years developing his knowledge of reinstatement and the surfacing industry. Serving 15 years with other utility based companies Chris’s old and new experiences has seen him develop as a key member of the Management team.
We wish him well in his new role
